Description
Maker: Each of these 4 classic gold and white bread and butter plates has the magenta backstamp of
Royal Chelsea and the retail mark of Ovington Brothers, a high-end New York and Chicago china retailer.
Age
: The Royal Chelsea company was founded in 1912 at the Chelsea Works factory in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England.
Ovington Brothers was renamed Ovington's around 1920 and closed around 1929. Since these plates have the name "Ovington Brothers", they were produced between 1912 and 1920.
Design
: The pattern number 6000 is handwritten on the back of each plate. The traditional design features an elegant embossed gold band and a thin gold verge against a background of fine pure white bone china. It would complement countless other patterns by Royal Chelsea and other high quality makers.
Size
: The plates are 6 7/8 inches wide and together weigh just over 2 pounds.
Condition
: There are no marks, nicks, chips, cracks, stains or repairs. There is light wear to the edges and verges, a few dark spots in the gold - shown in the photo with the penny - and a few faint utensil marks that can be seen in bright light. One plate has an embedded dark spot on the reverse; it's shown in the photo with the arrow.
Please check all the photos very carefully - they are an important part of the description.
