Description
Maker: Each of these 5 classic gold and white salad plates has the magenta backstamp of
Royal Chelsea and the retail mark of Ovington Brothers, a high-end New York and Chicago china retailer.
Age
: The Royal Chelsea company was founded in 1912 at the Chelsea Works factory in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England.
Ovington Brothers was renamed Ovington's around 1920 and closed around 1929. Since these plates have the name "Ovington Brothers", they were produced between 1912 and 1920.
Design
: The pattern number 6000 is handwritten on the back of each plate. The traditional design features an elegant embossed gold band and a thin gold verge against a background of fine pure white bone china. It would complement countless other patterns by Royal Chelsea and other high quality makers.
Size
: The plates are 7 1/2 inches wide and together weigh 2 pounds 13 ounces.
Condition
: There are no marks, nicks, chips, cracks, stains or repairs. There is light wear to the edges and a few faint utensil marks that can be seen in bright light. One plate has a chip on the underside edge; it's shown in the photos with the penny.
Please check all the photos very carefully - they are an important part of the description.
