Notable Features:
This brooch was handmade in the Art Deco era. Composed of 14k yellow gold and 900 platinum, the pendant features a beautiful sapphire and foliage cut-out designs. The use of such a colorful stone in this piece is a classic example of the styles of jewelry popular during the Art Deco era, which saw wealthy socialites and aristocrats donning bold, eye-catching jewelry to wear to Gatsby-style parties and formal events. Jewelry worn during this time period was created to make a statement and draw attention to the wearer, and this brooch is no exception.
The face of the brooch is composed of 900 platinum. Adorning the center of the brooch is a sapphire. The sapphire is semi-translucent, allowing light to filter through its body and illuminate its stunning light blue hues. With a round faceted cut, the sapphire sparkle brilliantly as light reflects from its faces. The sapphire rests in platinum bezel settings, the cool hue of the gold is a gorgeous complement to the light blue tones of the sapphire. Surrounding the sapphire are beautiful cut-out swirl motifs and foliage designs—these elegant designs on the brooch give the piece a unique and eye-catching feel.
Completing the brooch is a 14k yellow gold pin stem with a "c" clasp which allows it to be worn on a variety of accessories, including hats, scarves, and lapels, among many others. This brooch would make a valuable addition to any antique jewelry collection, a classic example of Gatsby-style jewelry from the Art Deco era. Don't miss your chance to preserve this piece of cultural history.

The History
The Art Deco era is famous for being the "Gatsby" or "Roaring Twenties" era. A lot of gorgeous and timeless designs in jewelry came out of this period. Jewelry from this period was most often crafted between 1920 and 1940. Art Deco jewelry sometimes featured white gold or platinum, geometric designs, European cut diamonds, filigree, and calibre cut stones that are specifically cut to fit the design of the piece. During the Art Deco period jewelers often made jewelry upon custom order, this would often take weeks to months to completely craft by hand.
Sapphires are one of the four precious gemstones and have been prized for their rarity and beauty for centuries. Sapphires are one of the two varieties of corundum, the other being ruby. Sapphires are usually a deep blue in color but can also occur in other “fancy” colors of white, yellow, grey, green, and orange hues. The only color a sapphire cannot be is red. The Ancient Persians believed that the sky was painted blue by the reflection of the sun on sapphire stones, and many rulers and religions have used this stone to denote status and sanctity.
