    Description

    This 6 inch William Adams Chinese Bird transferware plate is in excellent condition but with crazing visible on the back. It is back stamped registry number 623294. Additional information on the back is: “This pattern was introduced by William Adams in 1780 being a copy of a Chinese pattern and one of the first of its style produced in English pottery." There’s also a reproduced signature, Wm Adams. Though an original plate would have dated from 1780, this is a vintage, almost antique* reproduction of that. It was made between 1930 and 1935. The others that you see for sale on eBay with the same inscription on the back are of the same era, they are no older. I see quite a few for sale in England and in fact my mother bought this one when she lived there in the late 1970s. She helped me collect a whole dining room wall display of blue and white plates, platters and bowls. Beautiful!
